One Year of Neuropathways Swansea: A Year of Supporting People in South Wales

Neuropathways Swansea

In August 2025, we opened the doors of our Neuropathways Swansea clinic for the first time.

We wanted clear, accessible ADHD and autism assessments, diagnosis and support to be within reach for children, adults and families across South Wales, without the years of waiting so many had come to expect.

As the specialist neurodiversity service within Health is One, we were fortunate enough to use our experience from providing mental health and wellbeing support to children, adults and families for over 30 years as the basis for what we do.

It’s been a whirlwind of a year and we’re so grateful to those who have been on this journey with us.

A year in the life of the Neuropathways Swansea clinic

One of our goals when launching the service was to make things easy for those seeking support and that starts with the free discovery call. It’s exactly what it sounds like, a proper conversation about what you have been noticing, with no commitment and no judgement attached.

For a lot of people, making that call is the hardest part. We understand that, and we try to make it easier. Ultimately if you decide you’re not ready to proceed, that’s absolutely fine, sometimes talking to our team is enough to give you some knowledge and make an informed decision. We’re always happy to share our free resources and upcoming events that have been designed to be accessible to all.

From there, if you do decide to proceed, things move at a pace that suits you. We get to know your history through some initial questionnaires, carry out a full assessment across a couple of structured appointments, online or in person, and then talk it all through, together with a written report you can take to school, work or your GP. Most people reach that point within just a few weeks and every stage follows NICE-aligned, gold-standard practice.

But we have never seen the report as the finish line. As we often say, diagnosis is only one part of the journey, and the support that comes afterwards is what makes the real difference. Coaching, therapy and family sessions are where understanding turns into something you can actually use on a daily basis.

The impact of a year

It’s been a joy to reflect on the past year. In 12 months we have supported more than 130 individuals and families and welcomed over 300 people to a first discovery call. Beyond the clinic itself, thousands more have engaged with our free webinars, reflection tools and newsletter.

We try never to let those figures become abstract. Each one is a person who wanted answers, an adult who had spent decades wondering, or a parent lying awake trying to understand their child a little better. Helping this many people on their journeys has been the real privilege of our year.

The webinars have grown into a little community of their own, bringing parents, carers and neurodivergent adults together for sessions on everything from after school dysregulation to neurodiversity at work. One parent told us that for years they had believed they were the cause of their child’s behaviour, and that a single session finally showed them what would actually help.

The team behind Neuropathways Swansea

None of this runs on its own, and it certainly does not run on systems. It runs on people. Our staff, from our clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and assistant psychologists to our coordinators, support staff and senior management, are all invested in the people we support, from answering that first nervous call, to sitting beside you through an assessment, to helping shape a plan that fits your actual life rather than a template.

When we asked the Neuropathways Swansea team what the year had meant to them, they were keen to share what it really feels like to play a role in the lives of the people we support. Amy, our Service Manager, talked about seeing the whole person, because behind every assessment is someone with their own story, and about people finally feeling seen, heard and understood. Julia, one of our Assistant Psychologists, spoke about the joy of watching the service come to life, from the assessment room to our community events. And Ashleigh described the part that stays with her, watching people understand themselves and grow in confidence.

A community voice in Swansea

If you asked us to sum up the year, we would not reach for a statistic. We would reach for something one family said to us. In their words, they have gone from surviving to actually living.

When they first came to us, daily life felt unpredictable and exhausting, and without any answers they felt stuck. After their assessment, things finally made sense, and they left with practical support that brought home and school back onto the same page. They have kindly let us share their words, anonymously, because they put it far better than we ever could.

Looking ahead in Neuropathways Swansea and beyond

So what comes next? More of the work that matters, and a little more reach. Demand for good, timely assessment keeps growing, and this year has shown us how many people are still waiting. That is why, in January 2026, we opened a second clinic in Uddingston, Scotland, so that more families have somewhere to turn. This marked a new step for us, mostly, though, it reminds us how much need is still out there.

Over the next year we will keep growing the Neuropathways team, adding to our free resources, and standing beside you at every stage. And if you have been considering whether an assessment might be right for you, or for someone you love, take this as your nudge. The first step really is a small one, and you will not be taking it alone.

Thank you, South Wales. It has been quite a year. Here is to the next one.
