If you are in Glasgow or the surrounding area and wondering whether ADHD or autism might be affecting your life – or your child’s – you are far from alone. Awareness of neurodiversity has grown considerably in recent years, and with it, the number of people who are beginning to ask questions they perhaps did not know how to ask before.
The challenge, for many people, is knowing where to go next. NHS waiting lists for neurodiversity assessments in Scotland are significant, and the path to a private assessment can feel unclear. This guide is intended to make that path a little easier to navigate.

Why are so many people seeking assessments in Glasgow right now?
Glasgow and the wider central Scotland area has seen a sharp increase in requests for neurodiversity assessments over the past few years. This reflects a national trend, but it is also a local one. Greater awareness, better representation of neurodivergent experiences in the media, and the growing recognition that ADHD and autism present very differently in different people – particularly in women and girls, who have historically been significantly underdiagnosed – has brought many more people to the point of seeking answers.
For many adults, it is a child’s assessment that triggers their own. They recognise the patterns. For others, it is a period of burnout, a career difficulty, or simply a growing sense that something has always been harder for them than it appears to be for the people around them.
Whatever has brought you to this point, the desire for clarity is entirely reasonable. A proper assessment does not label you – it explains you. And for most people, that explanation is the beginning of something genuinely useful.
What is Neuropathways Clinic and where are we based?
Neuropathways Clinic is the specialist neurodiversity service within the Health is One network, offering ADHD and autism assessments alongside learning needs assessments and post-diagnostic support for people of all ages.
Our Glasgow-area clinic is based in Uddingston, just a short distance from the city centre and easily accessible from across central Scotland. We also offer secure online appointments for those who prefer to attend remotely – using exactly the same NICE-compliant tools as our in-clinic assessments.
All of our clinical psychologists are HCPC registered. We hold ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 accreditation, are Cyber Essentials Plus certified, and are a Disability Confident employer. We are also BACP accredited.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can refer yourself directly by booking a free discovery call with our team. If you already have reports from school, work or your GP, we are happy to review them, but they are not required to begin the process. Self-referral is straightforward and means you do not need to wait for a GP appointment before taking the first step.
What does the assessment process involve?
Our assessments follow a clear, five-step pathway designed to be as straightforward and supportive as possible.
- Step 1 – Free discovery call: a short phone or video call to discuss your concerns, answer questions about costs and timelines, and establish whether an assessment is likely to be helpful.
- Step 2 – Learning needs exploration: completion of screening questionnaires and, where helpful, a learning needs or workplace assessment.
- Step 3 – Comprehensive assessment: structured ADHD and/or autism appointments, carried out in person at our Uddingston clinic or online.
- Step 4 – Feedback and written report: a clear explanation of results in plain English, plus a detailed report suitable for school, university, work or healthcare providers.
- Step 5 – Post-diagnostic support: coaching, therapy or family sessions to turn insight into practical strategies for everyday life.
Most clients complete the pre-questionnaires, two structured appointments and feedback session within six to eight weeks of booking.

Who can be assessed?
We assess both children and adults. For children, we work with parents and families to ensure the process is age-appropriate and that the results are communicated in a way that is useful for school, family life and the child’s own understanding of themselves. For adults, we recognise that many people come to us having spent years managing without support, and our approach is sensitive to that history.
We also assess for learning differences including dyslexia and dyspraxia, and can screen for anxiety, mood difficulties and sensory profiles as part of a broader picture.
What about funding and payment?
Many clients use workplace schemes, Disabled Students’ Allowance or private health policies to fund their assessment. We can provide estimates and supporting letters for funders. Interest-free instalments are also available – ask during your discovery call and we will talk you through the options.
